Jake Freitas is a rising third year law student at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. Freitas is active in student organizations and a member of Hastings Journal of Crime and Punishment. He is currently the Journal’s Managing Editor and chair of the Community Advocacy Committee. During the Spring 2020 semester, Mr. Freitas interned with the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, working on the Government Team advising City departments and local officials. Later this summer, Mr. Freitas will be clerking with Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth’s San Francisco office, working on public law and public finance projects. After law school, Mr. Freitas hopes to work with local governments and community groups on issues related to community economic development.
Mr. Freitas received his B.A. in philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2011. Before law school, he worked as a carpenter and a musician. A longtime resident of Oakland, Mr. Freitas is an active member of the local art and music community. He is also a passionate volunteer, working with local and state prisoners advocating for their rights while incarcerated.
