Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) has renewed its Platinum-level support of the Institute of Local Government (ILG) for the fifth consecutive year, continuing its commitment as a dedicated public-sector partner promoting good governance at the local level.

“ILG enjoys working with RPLG because of their excellent contributions to our educational programming, ranging from insightful articles to webinars to in-person training,” said Senior Program Manager Melissa Kuehne. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration on future projects and initiatives.”

Over the past five years, RPLG and ILG have joined forces to present educational events for local agency officials in California. In 2020, when cities, counties and special districts faced challenges in protecting public health and safety while maintaining essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic, RPLG and ILG produced ‘Fiscal Matters & Labor Negotiations: Practical Solutions For Public Agencies During COVID-19.’ In response to national demands for justice and police reform, RPLG and ILG co-presented a six-week ‘Public Safety Reform and Innovation Webinar Series.’ This series shared actionable steps toward safer and more equitable police practices and explored alternative public safety models.

In July, Jake Whitaker, Director of Grant Services for RPLG affiliate California Public Policy Group, led a session titled ‘Grant Readiness 101: Preparing to Submit Competitive Applications for State and Federal Funding,’ which attracted 400 registered participants.

ILG tapped RPLG Partner Andrew Shen to present the annual AB 1234 Ethics Training educational session at the 2024 League of California Cities Annual Conference and Expo. California law mandates that local agency officials receive at least two hours of ethics training every two years, covering general ethics principles and relevant laws.

“RPLG believes that advocating for public agencies is in the public’s interest,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “ILG shares that belief. Our continued partnership highlights our mutual commitment to supporting local government throughout California.”

In recognition of his “exceptional professional achievements and longstanding commitment to good governance and local government,” Jon has joined ILG’s nascent Panel of Advisors (POA). The POA will provide thought leadership, guidance, feedback and informal advice as well as influence program development and materials and help ensure that ILG is at the forefront of emerging issues in leadership, governance, ethics and more.

ILG empowers local government leaders and delivers real-world expertise to help them navigate complex issues, increase their capacity and build trust in their communities.

RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies, nonprofit entities, individuals and private entities in need of effective, responsive and creative legal solutions.
