Dane Hutchings is the Managing Director of Renne Public Policy Group (RPPG), a division of Renne Public Law Group.

For over a decade, Dane Hutchings has been advocating for the best interests of both public and private entities. He is a seasoned legislative advocate and political strategist with a keen understanding of the California political process and landscape. Regarded as a statewide thought leader in California public pension policy, Mr. Hutchings brings a unique understanding of California city operations, service delivery methods and revenue sources.

Related Experience

Mr. Hutchings most recently worked for the League of California Cities as the Legislative Representative and Federal Policy Liaison. He acted as the key strategist, advisor and advocate in issue areas including California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), labor relations policies, healthcare, elections, California Voting Rights Act (CVRA), California Public Records Act, and other issues related to local government operations. Regarded as an expert in public pension policy, Mr. Hutchings provides policy briefings to local governments, labor groups, business groups and local chamber of commerce on the complexity of the Nation’s largest retirement system.

As the Federal Policy Liaison, Mr. Hutchings worked across multiple policy areas of importance to local government including tax, infrastructure, transportation, public safety and environmental policy. Working in conjunction with the National League of Cities, Mr. Hutchings, fought to protect federal programs critical to local governments including Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships, Choice Neighborhoods and Self-Help and Assisted Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP).

While at the California Grocers Association, Mr. Hutchings represented over 300 members in the retail food and supplier industry. He specialized in labor and employment, healthcare, retail food and general business issues. Mr. Hutchings worked directly with local governmental bodies, staff and their organizations on local and statewide polices that ensured continuity for his clients while preserving local government authority.

In 2010 Mr. Hutchings served as the interface between the government affairs and public affairs practice areas at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. He was responsible for advocacy and support for multiple California legislative and regulatory issue areas including: renewable energy, transportation and toxic substances. During his time with Ogilvy, Mr. Hutchings was part of the communications and outreach team for the California high-speed rail statewide infrastructure project, as well as overseeing the execution of a texting and driving awareness campaign for the California Office of Traffic Safety.
