Renne Public Management Group (RPMG) welcomes a new consultant: Karen Boyd. Karen will support the firm’s Advanced Wildfire Risk Reduction (AWRR) program, which offers actionable solutions to reduce wildfire risk based on the latest fire science.

“I’m excited to join RPMG in launching this new practice to tackle one of California’s most urgent challenges: preventing wildfires,” said Karen. “It’s going to take new thinking and collective strategies to keep our communities safe.”

The AWRR program includes a thorough assessment and visualization of community wildfire risk, a review of existing ordinances and the development of phased implementation roadmaps for targeted fire risk mitigation measures. Karen, along with Renne Public Law Group Founding Partner Jon Holtzman and fellow RPMG consultant Dave Winnacker, will support services including policy development, staffing assessments and risk reduction strategies.

“By working closely with community leaders, decision-makers and property owners, we can foster a collective effort to enhance public safety and reduce wildfire risks,” said Karen. “Our goal is to build strong, resilient communities through proactive and innovative solutions.”

A veteran communications strategist, crisis communicator, and civic leader, Karen is a former communications director for the City of Oakland, where she advised top officials and executive leaders on high-profile, complex, sensitive and urgent issues. As a seasoned lead public information officer, she has managed dozens of emergency operations activations and crisis responses. She is well-versed in complex administrative, operational, technical, personnel/labor, legal and quality-of-life issues.

“Karen’s deep experience in the government, nonprofit, and corporate sectors will be an incredible asset to our clients,” said RPMG Executive Director Nelson Fialho. “Her ability to navigate complex challenges will strengthen our consulting practice and expand our capacity to support communities across California.”

Formerly president of the East Bay SPCA Board of Directors, Karen currently serves on the boards of directors of Children’s Fairyland and the League of Women Voters of Oakland. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in international relations from the University of California at Davis.

“I’m excited to join RPMG, where I can continue serving public agencies in a new capacity,” said Karen. “I look forward to working alongside a talented team dedicated to helping clients strengthen public engagement.”
