Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) is pleased to announce that Max Peltz has joined the firm as of counsel, where he will strengthen the firm’s litigation and public interest practice serving public agencies and nonprofits throughout California.
“I’m excited to join RPLG and support cities, counties and other public entities,” said Max. “Litigation that protects vital community programs and reinforces core constitutional protections is work I’m proud to be part of.”
Max joins RPLG after more than a decade with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Office of Enforcement in San Francisco, where he served as senior litigation counsel. In that role, he led federal civil enforcement actions, managed multidisciplinary case teams and secured millions of dollars in redress for tens of thousands of consumers, including military servicemembers, students and financially distressed borrowers. He also authored complaints, argued motions in federal court and negotiated significant settlement agreements.
“Public enforcement work is ultimately about making sure the law protects the people it was designed to serve,” continued Max. “At the CFPB, I had the opportunity to work on cases that helped return money to vulnerable consumers and hold companies accountable.”
Earlier in his career, Max served as an assistant district attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, prosecuting complex criminal matters and litigating civil consumer protection cases involving environmental enforcement, wage theft and unfair business practices. He also previously served as a deputy city attorney in the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office under then-City Attorney and RPLG Founding Partner Louise Renne, where he represented the City in state and federal litigation and advised departments and elected officials on municipal law and elections matters.
“Max brings serious depth in public enforcement and a clear commitment to serving the public interest,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “He has handled complex matters at both the federal and local levels and understands not just the courtroom, but the public purpose behind the work.”
Max earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served as executive editor of the Yale Law & Policy Review and received the Benjamin N. Cardozo Prize for Best Moot Court Brief. He earned his B.A. in international relations from Stanford University, graduating with honors and distinction and receiving the Firestone Medal for Excellence in Research.
