Renne Public Law Group and Renne Public Management Group Partner with ILG for Third Installation of Wildfire Risk Reduction Webinar Series

As part of an ongoing series to help local government leaders reduce wildfire risk, Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) and Renne Public Management Group (RPMG) partnered with the Institute for Local Government (ILG) to host “Controlling Your Own Destiny: A Local Leader’s Toolbox for Reducing Wildfire Risk” on November 13. The webinar empowered local leaders with practical tools to take control of their community’s wildfire future through strategic planning and policy decisions.

“We are fortunate to have Jon and Dave leading the charge on this timely webinar series to help local government agencies reduce their communities’ wildfire risk,” said ILG Director of Enterprise Programs and Special Projects Melissa Kuehne. “This series reinforces ILG’s mission, which is to deliver expertise to help California local leaders navigate complex issues.”

The session provided a comprehensive walkthrough of tools available to local leaders, including updates to the Local Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps, guidance on evaluating development in fire-prone areas and a review of the importance of adopting local wildfire protection measures.

“Too often, wildfires feel like something beyond a community’s control,” explained RPLG Founding Partner Jon Holtzman, who leads the series alongside RPMG Consultant Dave Winnacker. “But in reality, local governments have powerful tools to reduce risk through smart planning, zoning and ordinance adoption.”

The series, which launched in September, will conclude with “Ch-Ch-Changes: CEQA and How It Impacts Your Wildfire Risk Reduction Efforts” on January 26, 2026.
