Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) Founding Partner Jon Holtzman and Director of Labor Relations Luke Jensen will attend the California Special Districts Association (CSDA) General Manager Leadership Summit, taking place June 28–30 in Newport Beach. The Summit brings together general managers and senior leaders from special districts across California to discuss governance, leadership and operational challenges facing local public agencies.
During the conference, Jon and Luke will lead the session, “Getting and Maintaining Support of Governing Bodies for Negotiations,” on Monday, June 29. The presentation will focus on strategies for building and sustaining governing board alignment throughout labor negotiations, including techniques to educate elected officials, maintain majorities, adapt negotiation strategies and improve fiscal sustainability.
The session will provide practical guidance for agency leaders navigating complex negotiations with employee groups while also maintaining positive relationships with governing boards and the communities they serve.
“Successful negotiations depend on the support of legislative bodies,” said Jon. “Being thoughtful about educating these legislative bodies is at least as important as what we do at the bargaining table.”
Jon has advised California public agencies on labor negotiations, governance and fiscal strategy for almost four decades, helping agency leaders navigate some of the most challenging and politically sensitive workforce issues facing local government. Earlier this year, Jon and Renne Public Management Group Executive Director Nelson Fialho co-authored the PublicCEO article, “Beyond the Bargaining Table: How to Build and Sustain Governing Body Support for Labor Negotiations,” which explores how agency leaders can maintain governing body alignment throughout difficult negotiations and organizational challenges.
