Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) congratulates Partner Rubin E. Cruse, Jr. newly appointed to lead the firm’s government practice.
Rubin, who currently serves as assistant legal counsel for the Woodside Fire Protection District and legal counsel for the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority, brings more than 28 years of public agency law experience to his new leadership role, including more than a decade as Shasta County Counsel. In that capacity, he managed the county’s in-house law office while also providing practical legal advice and representation to the board of supervisors, the county executive officer and other county leadership on a full range of legal issues.
“Public agency law is a mission-driven practice, and I am excited to take on this role at a firm committed to the public interest,” said Rubin. “I look forward to collaborating with our talented team to build on the diverse and thoughtful work RPLG has always done for public agencies throughout California.”
Rubin’s deep experience includes advising public officials on the Brown Act, ethics and conflicts of interest, election campaign restrictions and local campaign finance ordinances, LAFCO practice, as well as labor and employment issues. He has presented at various conferences and institutions, most recently on (1) Responding to ICE in the Workplace, and (2) Navigating Quasi-Judicial Proceedings.
“The legal landscape for public agencies continues to evolve, particularly in areas like governance, elections and employment,” said Rubin. “I look forward to helping clients stay ahead of those changes with thoughtful, solutions-oriented advice.”
His commitment to the profession has been recognized with the James B. Lindholm, Jr. Legacy Award from the County Counsel’s Association of California for outstanding contributions to the organization and public agency law. He also served as president and vice president of that association.
Rubin holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of Southern California.
“Rubin’s decades of experience as a county counsel give him a rare and valuable perspective on the challenges public agencies face every day,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “His thoughtful, focused approach to public agency law makes him the ideal person to lead this practice, and we look forward to seeing it grow under his leadership.”
RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies, nonprofit entities, individuals and private entities in need of effective, responsive and creative legal solutions.
