Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) is pleased to announce that Cary Zuk has joined the firm as a senior associate in its litigation practice. Cary brings more than 20 years of experience in public sector employment law, with a background spanning both federal government and private practice.

“I was really drawn to RPLG because it allows me to continue working in the public interest space, but in a private setting with an exceptionally talented team,” said Cary. “Many of the attorneys here also have backgrounds in government, which creates a very collaborative and understanding environment.”

Cary most recently served with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where she advanced from Associate Legal Advisor to Senior Litigation Counsel. In that role, she represented the agency before the Merit Systems Protection Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, defending against claims of misconduct, employment discrimination and reprisal. She also provided training and counsel to managers on employee performance, misconduct and discrimination, and negotiated settlements in employment disputes.

Prior to her federal service, Cary was a senior associate at Thatcher Zavaro & Mani, where she represented employees in claims of discrimination and retaliation under federal, state and county civil rights laws. Earlier in her career, she served as a General Attorney with the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, contributing to the investigation and litigation of complex antitrust matters.

“Cary’s extensive experience in employment litigation and her deep understanding of how large organizations operate will be a tremendous asset to our clients,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “Her commitment to public service aligns perfectly with RPLG’s mission.”

Cary earned her J.D. from the University of California College of the Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Hastings Women’s Law Journal and received the Hastings 1066 Foundation Scholarly Journal Prize. She also holds a B.A. summa cum laude from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Cary is also fluent in Spanish and is actively involved in pro bono work and currently serves as a volunteer attorney for the Alliance for Children’s Rights and previously for the Consumer Advocacy Project.

RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies and nonprofits, providing forward-thinking, responsive and creative legal solutions.
