Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) Partner Rubin E. Cruse, Jr. will present at the League of California Cities (LOCC) Fire Chiefs Leadership Seminar in Napa this December, offering essential guidance on communicating wildfire prevention measures to communities.

The session, “Don’t Shoot the Messenger: Delivering Difficult Wildfire Prevention Messages to Your Community,” will take place on Wednesday, December 11. Rubin will share the stage with Moraga-Orinda Fire District Chief David Winnacker and La Verne Fire Chief Chris Nigg.

“Fire chiefs and local leaders face the complex challenge of implementing crucial wildfire prevention measures while balancing regulations and community concerns,” said Rubin. “We’ll blend perspectives from legal and fire service experts to provide practical guidance on communicating and executing safety protocols while navigating California’s requirements.”

The presentation will address the intersection of local fire prevention authority and state regulatory requirements. Speakers will explore how local governments can effectively implement critical fire safety measures, including creating fire protection zones where cities meet wildlands and passing laws to remove hazardous vegetation and materials, while also navigating California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements, housing development laws and general community goals.

“Wildfires have become more common in California in recent years,” said RPLG Founder Jon Holtzman. “RPLG is actively expanding its legal services to address the increasing needs of our clients in this area.”

RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies, nonprofit entities, individuals and private entities in need of effective, responsive and creative legal solutions.
