Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) welcomes Of Counsel Matthew Dill, who will support public agencies and nonprofits throughout California. A previous member of the Los Angeles County Counsel’s Office, Matt expands the firm’s geographic footprint while advising clients on property tax disputes, governance, elections law and public sector oversight.
“RPLG offers the ideal environment to continue doing meaningful public sector work while also collaborating with brilliant attorneys who are true leaders in their respective practice areas,” said Matt. “I look forward to furthering the firm’s work for public agencies and providing thoughtful, tailored counsel to meet the unique needs of each of our clients.”
Matt joins RPLG with over 14 years of experience representing government entities, including a distinguished tenure with the Los Angeles County Office of County Counsel, where he served as senior deputy county counsel. In that role, he acted as senior litigation counsel and a principal legal advisor to major county departments, managing a broad portfolio of high-impact public sector matters.
His experience also includes leading and overseeing civil litigation in both state and federal courts, specializing in property tax disputes, tax sale challenges, bankruptcy proceedings, class actions and quiet title actions. As an advisor, he provided strategic counsel to the Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector, the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk and the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission on sensitive constitutional, statutory and regulatory issues. Additionally, Matt guided county leadership through countywide redistricting and drafted key legislative initiatives, including the county’s cannabis business tax and short-term rentals registration ordinances.
In addition to his civilian legal career, Matt is a veteran who served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps) from 2013 to 2022. His military service included roles as a special victims counsel, trial counsel prosecuting criminal cases and legal assistance attorney.
“Matt brings serious depth in complex public litigation and a rare perspective gained from his years in the Los Angeles County Counsel’s office,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “His background as a JAG Corps veteran brings a level of leadership and poise that aligns perfectly with our mission to serve the public interest. We are excited to welcome him to the firm as we expand our focus and support for public agencies across California.”
Matt holds a B.S. from California State University, Long Beach and earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School. He is admitted to practice law in California and before the Federal District Court for the Central District of California.
