RPLG CSDA ConferenceRenne Public Law Group (RPLG) will present two sessions at the 2024 California Special Districts Association (CSDA) Annual Conference in Indian Wells.

This year’s CSDA Conference, Sept. 9 to 12, will provide an opportunity for attendees to gather and learn from informative, educational presentations on special district topics.

From 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 10, Partner and Head of Government Section Amy Ackerman, Of Counsel Jim Ross and Partner Andrew Shen will present “Who Does What and Why: Establishing Good Governance,” a presentation that covers the roles of boards of directors, district managers, secretaries/clerks and legal counsel to ensure that special districts serve California efficiently and effectively. The session will address common problems that interfere with effective governance and can result in costly mistakes, including interference in administrative affairs and ensuring Brown Act and ethics compliance in board operations.

The following day, from 10:45 a.m. to Noon, Partner Rubin E. Cruse, Jr., Of Counsel Ann Danforth and Partner Andrew Shen will lead “Getting Started with CEQA.” The session will demystify CEQA’s unique concepts and language through real-world examples and illustrations in order to protect agencies from potential litigation. Attendees will learn how to understand basic CEQA obligations and spot the projects that prompt CEQA requirements. Presenters will also discuss case law developments and the newest state laws that continue to shape CEQA law.

“We are excited to share insight into these relevant topics affecting special districts” Andrew said. “These sessions will enable public agencies to effectively solve and avoid workplace and other governance issues. Equipping municipal leaders with this knowledge will lead to better public service outcomes.”
