Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) is delighted to announce that Steve Cikes has returned to the fold! Steve worked closely with partners Louise Renne and Jon Holtzman at our former firm, Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai, from the time he graduated from law school. Steve brings 15 years of experience representing and advising public agencies and non-profit organizations on labor, employment and government law as well as affirmative, public interest litigation.

“Even though RPLG is technically a new firm, I feel like coming to RPLG is like returning home. Louise, Jon and I have worked very closely together for years, and I look forward to the opportunity to do so again. RPLG’s litigation practice is robust and challenging. They handle the kinds of cases that I really enjoy.”

Founding Partner Jon Holtzman noted: “Steve and I have always had a special friendship and synergy. In addition to being a great litigator, Steve has an eye for detail and quality that adds immeasurably to a law practice. He has successfully litigated cases involving claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII and California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act, and has significant experience dealing with traditional and administrative writs of mandate, federal/state preemption issues, fiscal emergencies and the vesting of public employee pension and retiree medical benefits.”

Named a Rising Star by Northern California Super Lawyers and San Francisco Magazine, Cikes is a recipient of the Helen A. and John A. Garfield Endowed Scholarship, a CALI Award in the category of Civil Procedure II, and Witkin Awards in the areas of Professional Responsibility and Writing and Research II.

An alumnus of the University of San Francisco, as a law student Mr. Cikes served as a judicial extern for United States District Court Judge William H. Alsup in the Northern District of California and as a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division, in San Francisco. He has co-authored white papers and articles on topics including labor and employment voter initiatives, charter cities’ home rule authority and declarations of fiscal emergencies, and served as a panelist on post-employment benefits at the California State Bar’s Public Sector Conference.

RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies, nonprofit entities, individuals and private entities in need of effective, responsive and creative legal solutions.
