Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) welcomes Of Counsel Dan Cederborg. Dan brings nearly 40 years of experience in both public and private practice, with a focus on complex litigation and public agency legal counsel.

Dan is the third experienced county counsel practicing at RPLG joining Partners Rubin E. Cruse Jr. and Jim Ross, both former Shasta County counsels. RPLG’s past and present clients include 24 of California’s 58 counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Glenn, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Marin, Mendocino, Mono, Monterey, Napa, Placer, Riverside, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Siskiyou, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus and Tulare.

I have always admired the founding partners of the firm and their role in elevating the interests of public entities,” said Dan. “Working alongside talented attorneys like Rubin and Jim, who also have deep county counsel experience, is a great opportunity to continue contributing to California’s counties and local governments.”

Dan most recently served as county counsel for Fresno County from April 2014 through June 2025. He oversaw a team of 31 attorneys and 11 staff members while advising the Board of Supervisors and county department on a wide range of matters including litigation, public contracting, government regulation, Brown Act compliance, local government law, civil rights, labor and employment matters, taxation, finance, real estate and other business transactions.

Prior to Fresno, Dan was assistant county counsel for the County of Yolo and deputy county counsel for the County of San Joaquin. He also has experience in commercial litigation, antitrust and securities fraud defense from his time in private practice.

“Dan has a solid track record of effectively advising public clients on a broad range of legal issues,” said Founding Partner Jon Holtzman. “His experience will enable him to further elevate the firm’s services to counties in California.”

Dan earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific and his B.A. in history and political science from Seattle Pacific University.

RPLG practices throughout California, advising and advocating for public agencies, nonprofit entities, individuals and private entities in need of effective, responsive and creative legal solutions.
